Summer is a fantastic time to improve your musical skills, meet new teachers, and have experiences that are different than the school year.  Often, the students that participate in summer music camps grow quickly in their skills and musical understanding because of the amount of focus that the music camp provides to the students.

District 204 Summer Music offers students a variety of opportunities to participate in music over the summer months.  Check out the flyer below for dates and available classes.

Madrigals – 2017 recap

P1160277

The group performed to four sold-out Madrigal Feaste shows on December 14, 15, and 16, 2017 on the MVHS Auditorium stage. The Madrigals performed secular vocal music compositions from the Renaissance and early Baroque eras, as well as holiday favorites.

  • The production consisted of 26 Madrigals, 20 MadriGALS (two groups), 2 jesters, and brass, string, recorder and lute ensembles.
  • Approximately 300 guests were either served a meal (or dessert) at their table or had a more modest view from the peasant viewing area. Many parents attended multiple shows.
  • Tickets were $26 and $10 and went on sale in early November.
  • Tri-M members served guests their meals.
  • Thank you to all parent and students volunteers and music faculty who helped make the Madrigal Feastes happen.
  • All Madrigal vocal troupes performed holiday music before every Collage concert in the south lobby.
  • In addition, during their season, the group had special performances and service projects throughout the community.  See the Music on the Road post for details.

Tri-M Induction Ceremony & Reception

On September 28, 2017 the Metea Valley High School Tri-M Chapter 6072 inducted 282 members into the organization for the 2017-2018 school year. Metea’s Tri-M Chapter is one of the largest in the nation.

Before the ceremony,  music was provided by the Metea Valley Jazz Combo. Kimmy C., Tri-M President continued the evening with the welcome and introductions and Mr. Devany with opening remarks.

The 2017 Honorary Lifetime Recipient was Mr. George Quinlan, Jr., President & CEO of Quinlan & Fabish Music Company whose acceptance speech motivated the audience to reach for their dreams.  Through the years, Quinlan & Fabish has sponsored numerous workshops, clinics, and educational events for Chicagoland band and orchestra directors, students, and student teachers with the company helping to further Music Education throughout the Midwest. Since 1959, Quinlan & Fabish has helped to make participating in band and orchestra easier for countless numbers of students, parents, and teachers.

The induction ceremony was closed by Dr. Echols with words of congratulations and was followed by a reception in the auditorium lobby for Tri-M members, their families and guests.

Collage Concerts – 2017 recap

The November 30 and December 1 Collage concerts were a great way to begin the month of December and the holiday season!  An enormous thank you to the MVHS students and faculty who presented a great show — four times in two days!  And, another incredibly huge thank you to the parents and volunteers whose dedication and support were vital to make Collage happen — we could not have done it without you!

Once again, the Mission Impossible student team  pulled off the “impossible” task of the set change logistics behind the scenes at Collage.  This amazing group of MVHS students worked diligently on the stage quietly moving chairs, stands, etc. in preparation for the next act.  Kudos to this group of students for all of their seamless hard work.

It takes much time and energy from many parents to put on this event.  In fact, it is the biggest event supported by the Association of Music Parents (AMP) each year.  Here’s a few numbers to contemplate:

  • Total number of volunteer slots: 433 (including ticket distribution)
  • Total number of volunteers: 197 (90 people did 2 or more jobs)
  • Total volunteer hours: 1,136 (not including thinking hours!)

A special thank you to the AMP parent volunteers who served as Chairpersons for Collage:

  • Lou Villanueva (Collage Chair)
  • Lesley Miller and Elyse Degen (Tickets)
  • Anu Baloo and Shyamla Narayan (Beautification)
  • Beth Reiman (Poinsettias)
  • Carole Klewicki (Ushers)
  • Rebecca Burns (Faculty Meals)
  • Dina Bradshaw and Beth Martinson (CDs)
  • Jeanne Sheehan (Donut Day)
  •  Show Facilitators
  • Ellen Lee  (Volunteer Coordinator)

Collage Concert CDs

Please remember that Collage Concert CDs were delivered before finals. If you have questions about the CDs, please contact your student’s music teacher.

Senior Group Photos

Senior group photos taken during Collage will be available for purchase in March with two options:

  1. Senior plaque with engraved names of group members (band, chorus or orchestra)
  2. Individual photos (5″ x 7″ or 8″ x 10″)
