Help during the school year. During the course of the year, separate Sign-Up Genius links will be sent to parents to volunteer for activities (Tri-M Reception, Collage, Madrigals, Awards Reception, Fine Arts Festival, etc.)

Metea Music Photo Submissions & Alumni

 

PHOTOS NEEDED:  To preserve memories of the outstanding MV Fine Arts Program, we need your help providing photos of MV students at school functions.

  • Photos of 2012 – 2016 graduates (2009 – 2016)
  • Photos of current students (2013 – 2017)

The photos will be used for the annual Fine Arts Festival alumni slide show and the (coming soon!) music department annual yearbooks.

Submit Photos. Please share student and staff music photos from the current school year and previous years here. Please share the link as well!

PLEASE SEND PICTURES throughout the year!!

  • Please provide student name(s), event name and month/year picture was taken.
  • Small student group pictures are preferred and can also include photos of the faculty.
  • Submission ideas: student(s) playing an instrument, a group of students outside of the auditorium following a performance, an outside close-up of marching band students, an art student at an MV art show, etc.
  • As many photos as possible will be used, but not all photos can be guaranteed to be used.

Tri-M Music Honor Society

End-of-School-Year Reminder: All students are required to fulfill two volunteer positions each semester during the course of the 2016-2017 school year. There are numerous opportunities to fulfill this requirement after school, evenings and on the weekends.

The Metea Valley Tri-M Music National Honor Society boasts 300 members — one of the largest in the country. The quest of Tri-M members is to work together to raise public support and awareness for music programs and help students reach their full potential. Tri-M is a service-oriented student-run organization. Members are required to attend monthly meetings and fulfill various school-improvement and community relations volunteer duties in order to fulfill their membership requirements.

The first Tri-M monthly membership meeting was held on 10/4. At that meeting, students were provided a vision for the semester’s activities.

  • Please note that there is a Tri-M home page and a Tri-M student page.
  • The official link to the SignUpGenius for Tri-M students to sign up for service credit is now available.
  • All students are required to fulfill two volunteer positions each semester during the course of the 2016-2017 school year. There are numerous opportunities to fulfill this requirement after school, evenings and on the weekends.
  • Future required monthly meetings are scheduled at 6:50 AM (Tuesdays): 5/2.
  • All Tri-M members are required to attend Collage (12/1/16 & 12/2/16), Fine Arts Festival (5/20/17) and the Tri-M Recital (2/21/17).
  • Tri-M students are required to wear their Tri-M shirt (sent home with your student), black pants, and name badge to all service events.
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA.

The Tri-M faculty advisors are Mrs. Boddy and Mr. Kaminsky.

The Tri-M Membership Induction Ceremony and Reception was held on Thursday, September 29 with over 600 students and family members in attendance. At the reception, special guest Dr. Larry Livingston, a distinguished conductor, educator, and a highly respected motivational speaker was presented the Tri-M Lifetime Honorary Member Award.

Musical Theater – April 2017

AIDA – May 4, 5, 6 @ 7pm

Aida, this timeless story of love’s triumph over hate, including a pop rock score by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice, will be presented as this year’s 2017 Spring Musical on May 4, 5, and 6 at 7pm in the MVHS Auditorium.

  • The production features 50-60 cast members, directed by Nathan Bramstedt.
  • Tickets are on sale now here and will also be available at the door.

Upcoming Guest Artists & Technicians

The MVHS Music Department was awarded an IPEF grant to bring in guest artists and technicians. Another opportunity will be in April with Alexander Gemignani, Broadway actor and tenor, who plays King George III in the Chicago production of Hamilton.

Music Awards Night – Tuesday, May 9, 2017 7pm @ Metea

Awards Program. The Music Awards Night is a special night for all students to celebrate their many accomplishments during the past school year. The music faculty encourages students to dress up (suits & ties/dresses) for the event.

Dessert Buffet. Following the program in the MVHS auditorium, the Association of Music Parents will host a dessert buffet in the auditorium lobby. We are only asking for an hour (or more) to help with set-up, serving, or clean-up.  Please consider this volunteer opportunity here.

Spring Concerts @ Metea

  • Chorus – 7pm – Thursday, May 11, 2017
  • Band – 6:30pm & 8:15pm – Tuesday, May 16, 2017
  • Orchestra – 7pm – Thursday, May 18, 2017

  • Newsletter format. Please review the PDF main newsletter page to visit the items of interest regarding information from AMP and the MVHS music department. Don’t miss the calendar to get all important dates.
  • Social Media. A great way to stay connected while at MVHS — or after your student graduates!  Please join today and encourage your alumni parent friends and alumni music students  to also join us on social media.  Alumni events, MV department concerts, Collage Concert details, etc. are communicated regularly. Please join AMP on Facebook and Twitter at @MeteaAMP!
  • Learn About The Music Program. If you missed the AMP informational meeting on Wednesday, March 22 you can still learn how AMP supports the exciting MV music programs by viewing this slideshow under “MVHS Music Program Overview.” Want to get involved? See more opportunities here.

For Your Information

  • Dinners Out. The April “Dinners Out” location will be Chipotle Warrenville on April 26, 2017. Consider your family’s dinner done that evening. Please see the “Dinners Out” article for details and info on the May 17 “Dinners Out” at Portillo’s.
  • Senior Plaques & Photos. Senior parents, keepsakes are available of your senior student along with their peers in band, orchestra, or chorus. You can purchase a senior plaque (that has the group photo) with all the names engraved and/or two sizes of group photos. Students can view these plaques and photos in their band, orchestra or chorus classrooms. Orders will be accepted through April 21 and plaques will be delivered to your student on May 8. Please see order form.
  • Marching Mustangs. The Marching Mustangs is part of our music department’s strong foundation of excellence in music education. Orchestra and chorus students are also encouraged to join, as there are spots in the Pit Percussion and Color Guard where they can participate. You must register to be in Marching Mustangs by Friday, April 28, 2017. To register for Marching Band, go to http://www.meteamusic.org/marching-mustangs.html.
  • MVHS Music Alumni. If you know a former MVHS fine arts student or parent, please invite them to like the AMP Facebook page and follow the AMP Twitter account (@MeteaAMP) to find out current happenings in the music program. Alumni won’t want to miss updates about the alumni tent at the Fine Arts Festival on May 20. All MVHS fine arts alumni are invited to stop by! See more details here.   • Next AMP Board Meeting. The next AMP meeting is scheduled for 4:00pm on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in A133.
  • Recordings. Please note, sound recordings from concerts are available on Sound Cloud using the password mustangs.
  • Music Decals. Decals for vehicles can be purchased from the Sports Boosters window in the Commons at all sporting events. Decals available include: band, orchestra, chorus, madrigals, etc.

  • Saraswati Senior Music Scholarship. Seniors, don’t miss the deadline (April 28) to apply for the $1,000 scholarship for curricular music students. See application for details.
  • Summer Music Camp Scholarship. Don’t miss the deadline (April 28) for the Summer Music Camp Scholarship to attend a performance-based music summer camp. See application for details.
